The  HEAT is a locally based cover band playing rock, R&B, and blues classics from the 60’s, 70’s, 80’s and 90’s.  Formed in June of 2010, the band’s members were friends long before deciding to combine their talents to form one of Kansas City’s best power trios.  The HEAT takes pride in putting on fun and energetic shows and thrive on audience participation.  Guitarist and vocalist Don Shepard started his musical career in high school while working at Crossrhoads  Music in Belton,  Missouri.   Don went on to front the bands Catch 22, Lenny and the Hounddogs, and  Cripple Fight.  A talented drummer as well, he played skins for the band Three Rusty Nails.  Some of his musical influences include Stevie Ray Vaughan, Dave Grohl, Stevie Wonder,  and Jerry Cantrell.  Drummer Bill Peek began his musical journey in grade school and has played professionally with Lonnie Ray Blues Band, Loose Change, Gary “Alaska” Sloan, Miss Major and The High Mileage Band.  Bill still plays with Lonnie Ray at various venues in the metro area.   Bill’s musical influences include Stevie Ray Vaughan, BB King, Harry Connick Jr. and Tab Benoit.   Bassist Shawn Hornbeck musical career started when he played his first instrument, the trombone, 37 years ago.  He attended Emporia State University with athletic and music scholarships and was the lead trombone for ESU’s award winning jazz band in 1989.  Shawn has played bass since 1982 and some of his musical influences include Stevie Ray Vaughan, Clark Terry, James Jamerson, and Bill Watrous.  He previously played with the band Kevin Shaw and Tough Guys and The High Mileage Band.
